TMBA will offer all approved SAFE Act training privately at company locations or onsite throughout the state of Texas. Required subject matter includes federal law and regulations, ethics, fraud, consumer protection and fair lending issues, as well as instruction on mortgage origination. The SAFE Act, a part of the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 (HERA), establishes minimum national standards for mortgage training 20 hours of pre-licensing and at least 8 hours of continuing education annually for loan originators. We will continue to meet the educational needs of our state by providing up-to-date information, publications and instructional courses that not only meet the SAFE Act licensing requirements but also expand the scope of mortgage banking. TMBA is taking a significantly large role in working with our regulators and all mortgage lenders to ensure the continued strength of our residential real estate markets. The deadline for completing these requirements is April 30, 2010.
